The aim of the course is to give the student an overview not only about the history of the Czech lands, important personalities and cultural monuments, but also about contemporary life in the Czech Republic. After a brief introduction into the history of the country, the focus moves to particular important developmental stages of the state, from the Great Moravian Empire, government of Premyslids and government of other dynasties, including the events which influenced the development up to the creation of the first Republic. Following the period of the second Republic, the Second World War and post-war development. Essential part will be also concentrated on events of 1968 and 1989, and the circumstances connected with the formation of the independent Czech Republic.
Knowledge: Student can describe various historical stages and significant events. He is also able to provide information about cultural and historical attractions and important personalities.
Skills: Student can choose from any historical period and explain the causes and consequences of key events which influenced the development of the Czech lands. He is able to put into the context cultural and political life, including significant personalities who realized themselves in both spheres.
General eligibilities: Student is knowledgeable in the broder context of historical events and social life of developmental stages.
